There is plethora of research about how content is retained more when it is immediately followed by an activity. Course activities are a very important part of course design because it reinforces points and it keeps the learners engaged. Learning medical terminology is done through rote learning; repetition and reinforcement is a big part of the learning process therefore flashcards are often used.
Thought must go into planning different course activities to support the material and make learning enjoyable as well. The classroom is highly diverse and therefore activities should be monitored for its effectiveness, appropriateness, and cultural sensitivity when teaching adult learners.
I have learned through this course. that a what constitutes an exemplary outcome from the assessment and evaluation of student's learning is when the course has multiple timely and appropriate (absorb, do or connect) activities to assess student readiness for course content and mode of delivery.
